Provide Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation

This unit of competence is designed to prepare all workers; schools, child care, business or industry, to sustain life in the event of a suspected cardiac arrest, until assistance arrives. This course has no pre-requisites.

 

Course content includes but not limited to:

  • Legalities of first aid
  • Assessing the casualty & the scene
  • Investigating and addressing workplace specific hazards
  • Respect for casualty and cultural sensitivity
  • Applying CPR in line with recommendations of the ARC
  • Documentation and confidentiality of the incident
  • Infection control methods
  • Recognition and strategies to manage Post Traumatic Stress

This course is presented in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere using a balanced blend of instruction, practical demonstration and short theory task.

1st Choice First Aid supports the recommendation of the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) that CPR training be undertaken annually.

HLTAID003

Provide First Aid

This course prepares all workers, schools, child care, business or industry, to recognise and treat a range of injuries and illnesses. Most commonly known as Level II First Aid.

Course content includes but not limited to:

  • Legalities of first aid
  • First aid kits
  • Assessing the casualty & the scene
  • Investigating and addressing workplace specific hazards
  • Respect for casualty and cultural sensitivity
  • Applying CPR in line with recommendations of the ARC
  • Care of the unconscious patient
  • Documentation and confidentiality of the incident
  • Infection control methods
  • Recognition and strategies to manage Post Traumatic Stress

Recognition and management of:

  • Choking
  • Near drowning
  • Chest pains and heart conditions
  • Severe allergic reactions (Anaphylaxis)
  • Asthma
  • Bleeding (with workplace relevance, from grazes & nose bleeds to lacerations, embedded objects and amputation and much more in between)
  • Shock
  • Burns (radiant, thermal, chemical, electrical, friction, cold & molten material)
  • Soft tissue injury
  • Fractures and dislocations
  • Head, neck and spinal injury
  • Chest and abdominal injury
  • Envenomation – snakes, spiders and stingers
  • Medical emergencies – Diabetes, Stroke, environment conditions (for full listing please ask us)
  • Poisoning
  • Misuse of drugs or alcohol

Duration:

2 options

  1. 2 days (15hrs face to face), includes ample time for all assessment tasks, practical and theoretical
  2. 1 day (7.5hrs face to face) for instruction and practical assessments. Pre-course theoretical task must be completed prior to class start date.

Provide emergency first aid in an education or care setting

HLTAID004

This new unit of competence is designed for people working in an environment where they are responsible for children. The focus is on children, the injuries and illnesses they may have along with in-depth coverage of asthma and anaphylaxis management.

Course content includes but not limited to:

  • Legalities, confidentiality and reporting of incidents
  • First aid kits
  • Assessing hazards, casualty & the scene
  • Respect for casualty and cultural sensitivity
  • Applying CPR in line with recommendations of the ARC
  • Care of the unconscious patient
  • Infection control methods

Recognition and management of:

  • Choking
  • Near drowning
  • Chest pains and heart conditions
  • Allergic reactions – intolerance, allergy & anaphylaxis
  • Asthma
  • Bleeding control with a focus on wounds a child may present with
  • Shock
  • Burns
  • Soft tissue injury
